Roth IRA’s yearly contributions

Asked by pbucelwicz on December 26, 2007

In 2007 you are allowed to put in up to $4,000. In 2008 you will be allowed to put in up to $5,000. What is considered a year? Could I open a Roth IRA at the end of 2007 dump in $4,000 dollars then Jan. 1st 2008 put in $5,000 more? Or does it go by anniversary dates like credit cards?

Is google still a good buy?

Asked by pbucelwicz on December 10, 2007

Back in 2006 when google was at $450 dollars a share I was hesitant to buy it because it was at such a high price. Google is still going strong at over 700 dollars a share now. I personally think 2008 is the year google breaks 1000 dollars a share.

Even at googles high price, think google will do another 40% gain in a year?

Art Technology Group(ATG)?

Asked by pbucelwicz on December 5, 2007

I have been speculating ATG stock for a while. I know on a technical level what service this company provides. They specialize in large scale e-commerce web site software suites. They have big name clients, Target, BestBuy, Mercedes-Bens as examples, along with many others. The EPS for this company is 0. What does that mean?

I like what this company is doing and because they are a large legit company at such a low price I thought it was worth looking into. This company has been hovering around the single dollar amounts for a while and has been on the rise lately. Anyone think it’s a good buy?

Investing vs. Speculating

For those of you who have never invested into stocks before, this may come a surprise. Before you begin buying stocks you should learn the difference between what is investing and what is speculating. Most amateur investors are nothing more then speculators, they buy and sell stocks for irrational reasons. Before you buy any stock you should do your research, decide what the attractive characteristics are, calculate the earning potential and find out the fair value for each stock. You should never buy stocks blindly just because you love the name or because your buddy told you so.

If you don’t know what business the stock you bought is in, how the financial statements look or the growth potential of the firm you are nothing more then a speculator and will be lucky not to lose all your money. Do your homework, read the books we recommend, make rational decisions and you will eventually become a real investor.

For now if you have extra cash lying around that you want to invest into the stock market and have no idea what to invest in, the best advise I can give you is to invest into an index fund.
