Personal Finance

Before you receive your rebate check, find out: What is the best use of your IRS Rebate Check

Economic stimulus payments will be issued according to the last two-digits of the main filer’s Social Security number. People who use direct deposit also will be among the first to receive the payments starting May 2. Paper checks will be put in the mail starting May 16.

DIRECT DEPOSIT

Last two SSN digits: Payment will be transmitted:
 00 through 20  May 2
 21 through 75  May 9
 76 through 99  May 16

PAPER CHECK

Last two SSN digits:  Payments will be mailed by:
 00 through 09  May 16
 10 through 18  May 23

 19 through 25

 May 30
 26 through 38  June 6
 39 through 51  June 13
 52 through 63  June 20
 64 through 75  June 27
 76 through 87  July 4
 88 through 99  July 11

People who file a return after April 15 will receive their economic stimulus payment, but probably about two weeks later than the schedule shows. A return must be filed by October 15 in order to receive a stimulus payment this year. See the online calculator for an estimate of the amount you will receive.

This schedule has been updated since the last time I posted it. Your group is the same, but you will be receiving the check sooner.

I heard on the news the other day that they are going to send out the checks a week early. Direct deposite people should be getting their money a few days early as well.

When you get your stimulas check make sure everything is correct. There have been a number of cases where people did not get what they should have.

This states I should have received my direct deposit May 9. I haven’t received anything yet.

In some cases the deposit maybe late. Especially if you haven’t paid your taxes yet. I got a letter from the IRS a few days ago with my expected rebate info as well as a disclamer stating that in some cases the deposit will be late.

@Donna – My sister was expecting a check as well May 9th and didn’t receive it. She seems to think she had direct deposit under her state tax return, but owed money on the Federal return.

Did you owe any money on either return?

I was scheduled to receive mine May 16th, and at 12:00am May 16th $600 was in my checking account.

There is a hot line to call if you have any questions about your payment. Rebate Hotline: 1-866-234-2942.

when they say “mailed by July 4″ does that mean it’ll be put in the mail on the 3rd or is it possible to be mailed sooner?

  9. pbucelwicz Says:

It is possible that it is mailed sooner. When they say “mailed by July 4th” they mean they “guarantee” that it will be in the mail by the latest that day. I would expect the check a few business days after July 4th. If you don’t receive it, there is a hotline to call above.

I did not recive my payment on the 9th on May. Would love to know where it is . I have been out of work and really could use it. I never even got my state return

@jennifer I’m sorry to hear that. You are talking about this years Tax return right? Not this rebate check from last year?

If you didn’t receive a rebate check last year, I think you would get that back in your return this year. I wonder if there were any problems with your return as the reason you might not get it.

What about price? There’s a lot to be said for comparing the cost, since TurboTax adds up to cost quite a bit more.

That depends on how complicated your return is. If your income is just from wages, and you don’t have your own business or own rental property or something like that, you’d probably be OK online.
